Everyday Ethics for Our Environment with Catharine Ellingsen

On this fifth and final day of Ethics Week 2023, we are focusing on the everyday ethical decisions we make for our environment. Our value “Environmentally Responsible” means we are committed to taking action to protect and improve our environment. At Republic Services, we put this into action every day, not only by complying with all applicable laws and regulations, but by ensuring we do our jobs in an ethical and environmentally responsible way.

A few of the daily decisions we make that show our commitment to being responsible and ethical stewards of our environment include:

  • Following applicable Company policies, including all Absolutes and Standards addressing environmental compliance;
  • Maintaining proper operational procedures (for example, never co-mingling recycling and trash, ensuring the correct process is followed if there is a spill, etc.);
  • Following all permits and other regulatory requirements; and reporting concerns to ensure the resolution of any issues and continued compliance.

Another way we demonstrate our “Environmentally Responsible” value is by developing strategic initiatives that positively impact our business and our planet. For example, we are adding 60 renewable natural gas projects at our landfills over the next five years. This will enable us to convert more landfill gas into renewable energy, demonstrating our climate leadership and our commitment to safeguarding our environment for generations to come.

Read more about our Landfill Gas-to-Energy  projects and be sure to check out our Sustainability in Action page to learn more about sustainability within our communities and our organization.

Thank you for taking part in our third-annual Ethics Week.
