What Are Emerging Threats?
Cyber threats keep changing as attackers find new ways to use technology and influence human behavior.
Many emerging cyber threats do not rely on technical vulnerabilities alone. They work by rushing people to click, copy, paste, approve, or respond before they spot the warning signs.
Emerging Threats to Watch For
AI-Powered Scams: Attackers use AI to create realistic emails, voice messages, images, and other fraudulent communications that can look or sound trustworthy.
Deepfakes: Deepfakes are AI-generated audio or video that can imitate trusted individuals and support fraud attempts, such as fake approvals, urgent requests, or misleading instructions.
ClickFix: ClickFix scams use fake error messages, browser prompts, CAPTCHA checks, or meeting issues to make a problem look urgent. The goal is to trick people into copying and running instructions that could install malware or steal information.
QR Code Scams: Fraudulent QR codes can lead to fake websites that try to collect credentials or personal information. Be cautious with QR codes in unexpected emails, messages, flyers, packages, or websites. When possible, go directly to the official website or app instead of scanning.
How to Stay Safe
- Verify unusual requests before responding
- Be cautious when scanning QR codes
- Only follow troubleshooting instructions from a trusted source
- Avoid downloading applications from unknown sources
- Stay informed about new attack trends
- Report suspicious activity immediately
