Data Classification & Protection Word Find; Win a Diecast Electric Truck!

Why Data Protection Matters

Every day, employees handle information that helps keep Republic Services running. Some information is public, while other information may be internal, confidential, sensitive, or restricted.

Knowing how to properly classify and protect information helps reduce the risk of accidental exposure and ensures the right safeguards are applied.

What Is Data Classification?

Data classification is the process of identifying information based on its sensitivity so that it can be protected accordingly.

Think of it like airport security: Not every traveler receives the same level of screening, and not every document requires the same level of protection.

How You Can Protect Information
  • Apply the correct sensitivity label before saving or sharing documents
  • Verify recipients before sending emails
  • Use encryption when sharing sensitive information externally
  • Store company information only in approved locations
  • Share information only with those who have a business need to know

Common Mistakes
  • Sharing files too broadly
  • Forgetting to apply sensitivity labels
  • Storing company files on personal devices
  • Uploading sensitive information into unapproved applications

Remember

Before sharing information, ask yourself: Do I know who needs access, and have I applied the appropriate protections?

Protecting information is everyone’s responsibility.

Thank you for helping protect Republic Services’ data.
