What Is AI Safety?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can help employees work more efficiently, improve productivity and generate new ideas. However, AI tools also introduce risks when they are used improperly.
AI safety is about using AI responsibly by protecting company information, understanding what data can be shared and validating AI-generated content before using it in business decisions.
Common AI Risks
- Entering sensitive company or customer information into unapproved AI tools
- Trusting AI-generated information without verifying its accuracy
- Falling victim to AI-generated scams, fake messages or deepfakes
- Using AI applications that have not been reviewed and approved by Republic Services
How to Use AI Safely
- Use Microsoft Copilot for company business. Only use other AI tools if they have been formally approved by Republic Services
- Never enter confidential, sensitive, or customer information into unauthorized AI platforms
- Review and validate AI-generated content before using it
- Understand that AI can make mistakes and generate inaccurate information
- Report concerns or suspicious activity to the appropriate cybersecurity team
Remember: AI is a powerful tool, but it still requires human judgment. Use AI to assist your work, not replace critical thinking.
