With October coming to an end, we’d like to thank you for participating in our 3rd annual Cyber Safety Month Campaign. Over the past four weeks, we hope you’ve picked up some tips on how to spot phishing attempts, how to protect sensitive data, and how to keep your data and devices secure. One of the most important lessons of all is that everyone has a role to play in staying Cyber Safe!
Cyber Safety Month might be over, but that doesn’t mean we stop being vigilant about staying safe online. Always remember:
VERIFY BEFORE YOU SHARE. Data protection is everyone’s responsibility at Republic Services. By avoiding common mistakes like leaving confidential data exposed, uploading to AI websites, sending work information to personal accounts, or accessing unauthorized information, we can collectively safeguard our company’s valuable data assets. Learn more here.
PAUSE AND VERIFY. Attackers pose as trusted figures, create fake emergencies, or exploit curiosity to make you click, share, or act against your better judgment. Attackers succeed by manipulating emotions and creating pressure. Taking a moment to verify is your best defense. Learn more here.
REPORT PHISHING. One of the best ways to take down cybercriminals is by reporting phishing attempts. Click the Report Suspicious button anytime you believe an email you received is phishing or a potentially dangerous email. Learn more here.
USING AI TOOLS RESPONSIBLY. AI tools can be incredibly helpful at work but using them safely is essential. Avoid entering sensitive company or customer information into public AI platforms, as it could be exposed. Stick to tools approved by our IT team and always double-check the accuracy of AI-generated content before using it. Learn more here.
STAY SHARP AGAINST VOICE SCAMS. Vishing is when scammers pose as trusted contacts and pressure you into revealing sensitive information. They often create urgency, spoof caller IDs, and ask for passwords or account details. Stay alert—unexpected calls asking for personal data should always be treated with caution. Healthy skepticism is your strongest defense. Learn more here.
