What is Vishing? Vishing (voice phishing) is when scammers call you pretending to be someone trustworthy to trick you into sharing personal information like passwords or account numbers.
Common Vishing Scenarios
- “This is your bank. We’ve detected suspicious activity—please confirm your account number.”
- “You missed jury duty. Pay a fine now or face legal action.”
- “We’re from IT support. We need remote access to fix your computer.”
How to Spot a Vishing Attempt
- Pressure tactics: They create urgency or fear to make you act quickly
- Asking for sensitive info: They request passwords, PINs, or verification codes
- Fake caller ID: The call appears to come from a trusted organization
- Unusual requests: They ask you to install software or transfer money
What You Should Do
- End the call if something doesn’t feel right.
- Verify independently by calling the organization using their official phone number
- Never share passwords or other credentials–legitimate companies won’t ask for these over the phone
- Report it to InfoSec@republicservices.com. right away
Let’s build a culture of vigilance—one call at a time.
