75 Republic Services volunteers made a big impact on May 18, supporting the Community Harvest Network, formerly known as End Hunger in Calvert County, in Huntingtown, Maryland.
Volunteers supported work both indoors and outdoors, mulching, cutting grass and replanting trees and shrubs. They also unloaded trucks and food donations, painted walls, built shelves and cleaned the recently remodeled second floor, which was designed for the Culinary Workforce Development Program. The program introduces students with disabilities to culinary fundamentals while building independent living and workplace readiness skills needed for long-term employment.
The work made the site safer and more welcoming. Because of these volunteers, Community Harvest Network is better prepared to serve families across the county.
Additionally, the Republic Services Charitable Foundation awarded a $250,000 National Neighborhood Promise grant to Community Harvest Network. The grant will help finish warehouse construction and expand capacity for the End Hunger Food Bank and Culinary Workforce Development Program. This one-time investment will help the organization serve more people in need.
