When Miguel joined the Technical Institute Apprenticeship Program in early 2022, he saw it as both an opportunity and a challenge. Having watched his brother build a successful career with Republic Services for more than eight years, Miguel already knew the Company was a place where employees could grow and thrive.
For Miguel, the Apprenticeship Program provided much more than technical training. It helped build the foundation for both personal and professional success.

On the Move
After graduating from the Technician Apprenticeship Program in October 2022, Miguel continued expanding his skills through additional training, including a two-week program in California. He was then assigned to Copper Mountain Landfill in Wellton, Arizona, where he began his career as a Heavy Equipment Technician.
Miguel credits the support and guidance of Republic Services leaders for helping him succeed and advance in his career.
“My journey with Republic Services has been great thanks to leaders who guided me and gave me the tools I needed to succeed,” he said. “General Manager Peter S., Area Manager Ken M. and Maintenance Manager Troy R. have all played an important role in my development.”
Safety First
As a Heavy Equipment Technician, Miguel enjoys the variety each day brings.
“Every day is different,” he said. “You can start the day with a plan, but things can change quickly. My biggest focus every day is staying safe.”
While Miguel enjoys working on equipment and solving mechanical challenges, he has his sights set on future growth. His long-term goal is to become a manager and continue building his career with Republic Services.
When asked what advice he would give to someone considering the Apprenticeship Program, his answer was simple:
“Take advantage of the doors that are opening in front of you.”
