Technical Institute Apprenticeship Leads to Father-Son Team in Henderson, NV

What began as an apprenticeship has evolved into an established career for Erick G. After graduating from the Technical Institute’s Apprenticeship Program and completing his apprenticeship hours in Arlington, TX, Erick was promoted directly to a B Technician, a testament to his technical skills and work ethic.

His career path continued when he applied for a position in Henderson, where his father, a 20-year Republic Services veteran welder/technician, was already employed. “Working with my dad is a huge opportunity in itself. Most men spend the majority of their time providing, it’s a blessing to understand the sacrifices he made to provide,” Erick said.

The Republic Services Technical Institute Experience

A cornerstone of Erick’s professional development was the three months spent at the Republic Services Technical Institute. “My experience at the Technical Institute was surreal. The Technical Institute held everyone to a high standard while at the same time making me feel welcomed and like family,” Erick said.

This foundation has proven invaluable as Erick progressed through the ranks at Republic Services, providing both technical knowledge and professional standards that have guided his career.

Erick’s career advancement at Republic Services has translated directly into personal milestones. Next month, he will purchase his first home, a significant achievement that coincides with his professional growth.

Safety is a Top Priority

In his current role as a second shift Lead Technician, Erick balances hands-on work “on the floor” with administrative responsibilities “in the office,” supporting a team of technicians and drivers.

Safety is a top priority in his work environment. “We prioritize safety at work as a group effort. We’re not afraid to call each other out on our mistakes. That’s how we keep one another aligned in a safe manner,” he explains. This culture of accountability helps maintain Republic’s high safety standards.
