Just one year after graduating from Republic Services’ Technician Apprenticeship Program, Bryce Z. is already making a significant impact in Rancho Cordova, California.
Bryce’s contributions helped his team earn the 2025 West Sacramento Top Shop Award, a recognition of excellence in fleet maintenance operations.
“Bryce played a key role in strengthening our preventive maintenance program and helping keep our fleet safe and reliable,” said Rocky C., Fleet Maintenance Manager. “The knowledge and professionalism he gained through the Tech Institute allowed him to contribute right away and quickly become a valued member of the team.”
After completing all apprenticeship requirements, Bryce recently advanced to a C Tech position and continues to build on his success.
We caught up with Bryce to learn more about his journey and advice for future apprentices.
What motivated you to join the Technician Apprenticeship Program? What was your background?
I was motivated by the opportunity to continually improve myself, support my family and build a meaningful career. I wanted to develop skills that would allow me to make a positive, lasting impact on the people and communities around me.
What advice would you give someone interested in the Apprenticeship Program?
Stay curious and never be afraid to ask questions. Make it a goal to learn something new every day. Continuous learning helps you build new skills, gain valuable perspectives and grow both personally and professionally.
What’s one safety lesson you’ve learned that has had the biggest impact on how you approach your role?
Always take your job seriously. The quality of your work and attention to detail can directly impact the safety of others. Stay focused, follow procedures and approach every task with care and professionalism. Lives may depend on it.
Technician Apprenticeship Program
The Republic Services Technical Institute offers a nine-week apprenticeship program for individuals with or without prior diesel training experience.
