Our team in Anchorage, Alaska, recently completed Phase 1 of a challenging, multi-year reclamation project at an abandoned gold mine in the Steese National Conservation Area, located northeast of Fairbanks. This three‑year project includes five phases, and Phase 1 focused on safely mobilizing equipment and supplies to the mountains.
Over an 11‑day period, the crew successfully walked a D6 dozer and a 210 excavator an incredible 27 miles through mountainous terrain to position equipment onsite for the upcoming summer work. The team also transported 2,000 gallons of fuel to the site using snowmobiles, logging more than 1,000 miles of travel in total. The team worked 880 hours, all completed with zero incidents and no equipment damage.
“This accomplishment is a testament to the team’s preparation, skill, and unwavering commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. Outstanding work to everyone involved for setting a strong foundation for the phases ahead,” said Dillan H., Emergency Response Manager – ES.
Special recognition goes to the three team members below, whose dedication and expertise made Phase 1 a success:
Keith C., ES Field Supervisor

Ben B., ES Field Supervisor

Brock N., Millwright
