Sprucing up Neighborhoods to Support Communities

Employees across the country are stepping up for their communities this spring. Through our National Neighborhood Promise® program, the Republic Services Charitable Foundation provides funding, and local teams provide in-kind products, services, and volunteer opportunities to select nonprofit organizations leading neighborhood revitalization projects.

Launched in 2018, National Neighborhood Promise has supported nearly 60 unique projects in neighborhoods we serve. From enhancing parks to improving community centers and revitalizing other public places and spaces, National Neighborhood Promise helps neighborhoods thrive.

Recently, our team in Portland, OR, completed outdoor renovations at Lents Village, a local Meals on Wheels Center that provides free or low-cost lunch to seniors in need, Our local team cleaned up the outdoor spaces for residents and built raised garden beds to provide residents and other community members with a community garden.

Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun is helping revitalize Heart of Isaac Community Center by creating additional spaces for students, renovating the small food pantry to increase storage and capacity and more. These efforts will help the community center better serve individuals in the area and help address the critical issue of food insecurity in Phoenix, AZ.

In Georgia, Rebuilding Together Atlanta and Republic Services worked together to help transform AD Williams Park to revitalize and upgrade the baseball field with new dugouts, a backstop and shade area for fans, and resurface the park’s basketball court. To continue supporting this work, our local team will build and plant a community garden as a final phase of the project.

Our local leaders are true champions of our community-focused initiatives and provide critical support to our nonprofit partners as projects move forward. Throughout the month of May, teams will support multiple National Neighborhood Promise projects.
