We’ve heard from employees like Craig M., a roll-off driver, who helps veterans, and Jim O., who leads our safety program, and, also serves on the American Red Cross Board of Directors. These employees, and so many more, are making a difference.While today marks the last day of our Month of Giving, Employee Giving doesn’t end here. We’re going to keep sharing your stories and highlight the charitable organizations or causes that are important to you. Because what’s important to you is important to Republic.
Our first story comes from Gregory M. Operations Supervisor, Houston, TX.
“When I found out that Republic was going to allow us to donate to charitable organizations through payroll deduction, I elected to contribute to Mothers Enduring Neonatal Deaths (MEND). MEND started over 20 years ago in Dallas after the founder Rebekah suffered a loss but found no good support networks. MEND supports families who have suffered a loss from early miscarriages up to a year or two after birth. It now has many chapters all over the country, including a main chapter in Houston.
My wife and I have suffered two losses, in addition to having our three subsequent pregnancies. We joined MEND in May 2011 after we lost our first baby, a boy, when my wife was 18 1/2 weeks along in her pregnancy. My wife now serves as the assistant chapter director and I co-lead the dad's group. We have monthly meetings and two remembrance ceremonies a year.
I love the people who I have met through MEND and while I would prefer that I did not have to meet people under those circumstances or that my wife and I suffered our losses, I find it a blessing to be able to speak about it and try and help other families and individuals navigate their grief and healing, and that’s why I give.”
