Safety Tips While Collaborating Virtually

As we are hearing news of “Zoombombing” incidents, it’s important to understand how to protect your virtual collaboration and team meetings from unwelcome guests. Zoombombing is a type of cyberattack where strangers disrupt virtual events.

Our Company’s approved virtual collaboration platforms are WebEx and Microsoft Teams. Zoom should not be used for Republic Services hosted meetings.

Below are some basic tips to protect yourself and our Company against Cyberattacks of this kind.

  1. Do not share conference links on social media or publicly visible sites
  2. Apply patches when pushed by IT and reboot when requested
  3. Check your surroundings to observe everything your camera/mic can pick up & remove any sensitive or private information from the viewing area
  4. Do not upload or share any sensitive data (personal information, payment or banking information, etc.)
  5. Be aware of the participants and lines in use
  6. Mute smart home devices around you such as Alexa, Google Home, etc.
  7. Remember to keep all conversations, both public and private, professional and respectful
