Fear of public speaking is one of the most common phobias in the world. Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs and has over 345,000 members in nearly 16,000 clubs worldwide. Most clubs have around 20 members and meet online regularly.

Republic Services HQ employees founded its own Toastmasters chapter in 2019, aptly called TrashTalkers, where members prepare and deliver speeches, answer questions and get feedback. The club allows current and future leaders the chance to sharpen their public speaking skills in a judgment-free and collaborative environment.

Since then, the TrashTalkers have worked hard to grow their membership and now have 50 active members on their roster, earning them the Corporate Club Growth Award for growth, excellence and reaching Distinguished Status. International Director Violetta Rios recently visited the Corporate HQ offices to present the award.

“This award represents our board’s tremendous work to grow this club and we couldn’t be prouder of our members’ accomplishments and their continued growth and success as public speakers.” says JP P., Republic Services Toastmasters Club President.

Congratulations!
