On August 14, Republic Services volunteers teamed up with Maryland-based nonprofit A Wider Circle to assist community members experiencing hardship.
The mission of A Wider Circle is to advance equity in the greater Washington, DC region by fostering the exchange of goods, skills and connections from neighbor to neighbor, and by engaging in advocacy to address the root causes of poverty.
Through a $250,000 National Neighborhood Promise® grant, the Republic Services Charitable Foundation is helping A Wider Circle increase its capacity to receive bulk donations through the purchase of needed equipment, including a forklift, pallet rack and an additional truck. Coupled with the grant, the Republic Services team joined A Wider Circle at a volunteer day to distribute repurposed furniture and mattresses to those in need.
What is National Neighborhood Promise®?
The Republic Services Charitable Foundation’s National Neighborhood Promise Program aims to revitalize communities and the quality of life of residents through volunteer projects, monetary donations and in-kind services. This year, a total of $2.95 million will be awarded to 15 nonprofit organizations making a lasting difference in local neighborhoods.
