Republic Services’ Emergency Response to Pioneer Fire in Oregon, WA

The Pioneer wildfire, which began two months ago, continues to burn across 35,000 acres in Central Washington. Matt H. Area President – Pacific, recently visited our Emergency Response (ER) team as they are responding to the wildfire. The effort is being led by our Pacific Northwest ER team, specifically ER Manager Dana P. and Emergency Response Leads Zac D. and Ben V.  “The Pioneer Fire is threatening many homes including the town of Stehekin, Washington.  With limited road access in the area, Lake Chelan provides the primary means for transporting evacuees, fire crews, equipment and supplies.  In response, we have relocated 7 marine vessels from Washington, Oregon and California and personnel from across the country to safely provide marine transportation services,” Matt said.

The first photo in the slideshow above shows Boat Captain Chad S. and Deck Hand Alvaro C., both from Portland, Maine. They are manning the Pacific Protector, a boat based in Long Beach California.  “The vessel from California, manned by a crew from Maine, fighting a fire in Central Washington conveys the lengths we go to in order to help keep our communities safe,” Matt said.
