Republic Named Organics Recycler of the Year!

Each year, the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) presents six different recycling awards to honor the best in the industry, and this year Republic’s organics program was named the Organics Recycler of the Year!

For more than 30 years, we’ve provided organics solutions that support our customers and the surrounding communities. We currently operate 11 compost facilities in five states, run an organics preprocessing operation in Anaheim, CA, and maintain a robust food recovery program in Los Angeles, CA. We’re leading the way in diverting yard and food waste away from landfills and contributing to the circular economy.

Yard and food waste currently make up about 30% of the municipal solid waste that is sent to landfills, according to the EPA. With our organics programs, we recover safe and edible food for people and animals to consume and divert organics to our compost facilities that recycle the material into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. The compost is then marketed and sold to landscapers, golf courses, farmers, residential customers and even to recognized national brands at local home-improvement stores.

As we continue to serve our customers, we will continue to make a difference in diverting organics from landfills, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and helping feed families in need. This is our continued commitment to our Blue Planet^® sustainability initiative, our people, and our communities.
