The City of Inver Grove Heights recently recognized Republic Services for its sustainability actions in the community. The Gold Sustainability Award honors residents and businesses for exceeding a considerable number of sustainability actions in the following fields: energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and community involvement. Congratulations to all three of our facilities in Inver Grove Heights, including the Pine Bend Landfill, Recycling Center and Hauling Division, on this achievement.
Tara W., Sales Manager, and Steve S., Sustainability Specialist, accepted the Gold Sustainability Award on behalf of Republic Services from the City of Inver Grove Heights on June 24.
Here’s a glimpse at some of ways Republic Services in Inver Grove Heights is putting Sustainability in Action:
In 2023, the Inver Grove Heights Recycling Center captured:
- 22,946 tons of fiber saving 390,000 trees
- 5,400 tons of glass saving 11,000 cubic yards of landfill space
- 625 tons of aluminum saving 25,000 barrels of crude oil
- 600 tons of steel cans saving 1,080 barrels of crude oil
- 2,400 tons of plastics saving 38,000 barrels of crude oil
Additional Actions:
- 110 employees at the Hauling Division were given Bento Boxes and thermal mugs to reduce single-use plastics
- Water fountains were installed at all locations, saving over 1,100 water bottles to date
- Converted 130 light fixtures to LED at the Recycling Center and Hauling Division.
