While on route in Stevensville, MI, Driver Jeffery R. (“Red”) saw a man waving for help. The man pointed to a swamp where a car had crashed and was slowly sinking. Red gave the man his cell phone and told him to call 911. Red then entered the swamp. As he made his way to the car and reached inside, he didn’t find anybody. Luckily, as it turned out, the person involved in the accident had gotten out of the car before it was submerged and had left the scene. Jeffery was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Berrien County Sheriff Department in recognition for determining no individuals were in the vehicle and thus reducing the risks of first responders, who were yet to arrive on the scene. Congratulations, Red!
