Recently, Driver James D., who has been servicing the city of Weston, Florida, for 19 years, received high praises from the City Manager. In part, the letter of commendation read:
“Thank you for the joy and compassion you regularly show David. Your efforts and love should be shared wide and far. Thanks again for all you do to make the world a little bit better.”
James regularly receives customer compliments, but this one in particular really stands out. It recognizes the special bond that James has with 17-year-old David, who is on the autism spectrum. Every day, David is allowed to take a short break from his classes to say hi to James when he services his house. The friendship between David and James has been ongoing for over two years. According to his team, “James is one of the kindest, happiest, sincere, and loving employees you will ever come across. He loves Republic and loves his job. It’s a privilege and honor to work along someone like him who represents the values of Republic every day.”

Q If you weren’t a Driver, what would be your dream job?
A If I wasn’t driving for Republic Services, I would be doing full-time ministry.
Q What do you like to do in your free time?
A I enjoy reading.
Q What’s your secret to happiness?
A My secret to happiness is following God.
Q What has your friendship with David taught you?
A The importance of making people happy. David is always happy to see me and I look forward to seeing him, no matter what the day brings. Seeing him happy makes me happy.
