Pacific Area Employees Make Dog’s Day

General Manager Douglas F. sent us a story that exemplifies our value of Committed To Serve. Douglas is the GM for the Richland, WA Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility, located on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hanford Reservation and controlled by an armed security force with rules for entering the area. One of the rules strictly prohibits non-service animals. With this in mind, here’s how the story unfolds, as told by Douglas.

“On February 7, we were scheduled to receive an important shipment. The drivers of the shipment were a husband-and-wife team and were coming to the facility for the first time. In the pre-shipment documentation sent to them, they missed that they were not allowed to bring in their small, pet dog, Barron who travels the country with them in their truck.

Upon arriving at the DOE security facility, the shipment was being denied entry because of Barron. When my team heard of the situation, they immediately offered to take care of Barron so that the drivers could deliver the shipment.  The drivers were put at ease when they met two of our team members, Laura Lee B. and Lena W. who lovingly took in Barron. They even sent a photo or two of how well Barron was being taken care of to keep the drivers at ease while making the delivery.

In the end, the shipment was successfully delivered, Barron was spoiled rotten, and we now have two drivers who are overwhelmingly huge fans of Republic Services customer service!  It is because of employees like Laura Lee and Lena who show overwhelming compassion and understanding for others that I’m so proud of this team.”
