Office Safety: Small Habits Help Prevent Injuries

Safety is important everywhere we work, including offices, breakrooms and shared spaces. Proper housekeeping and safe choices can help prevent slips, trips and injuries. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Eliminate distractions while walking
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep walkways and paths clear of clutter and trip hazards
  • Wear appropriate footwear for your environment
  • Use three points of contact when entering or exiting vehicles or using stairs
  • Avoid carrying things in both hands at the same time
  • Put away tools, cords, cables and other items when tasks are finished
  • Do not plug one power strip or extension cord into another
  • Close office drawers when done using them and only open one at a time

Spill Prevention

Spills can happen anywhere and create hazards for others. If you see a spill in an office, breakroom or shared area, take ownership to clean it up right away and use signage when needed to alert others.
