November was another great month for highlighting all the work we do at Republic Services.  Check out the stories below to see what we were up to!

On the cool and sunny morning of Saturday, Oct. 21, 14 gladiators mounted their chariots — you might know them as garbage trucks — and entered the battle arena on the Republic Services parking lot in Chicago. The competitors had a singular focus: to become one with their craft as they safely navigate an obstacle course of trash cans, tiny traffic cones, and most formidable of all, judges with clipboards.

Evensol, Republic and Duke Energy partner on RNG projects

Evensol LLC, a renewable energy project developer focusing on biogas and methane mitigation, says it developed two renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities in North Carolina that are now operational. The Foothills Renewables Project in Caldwell County and the Upper Piedmont Renewables Project in Person County convert landfill gas from Phoenix-based Republic Services’ landfills into RNG.

Recyclers across the U.S. are struggling.  They are hoping artificial intelligence can help turn things around and boost recycling rates…Republic Services, the U.S.’s second-biggest waste-and-recycling company, is investing in robots as part of its goal to recycle 40% more key materials by 2030, including cardboard, metal, paper and plastics.  PDF

Republic Services investing $150M in 22-acre southside plastic recycling complex

Environmental services company Republic Services is investing $150 million to build two side-by-side plastic recycling facilities on the southside of Indianapolis, with the goal of keeping more plastic out of landfills and increasing the supply of recycled material for reuse in manufacturing.

Las Vegas community gives back for America Recycles Day

The Las Vegas valley is going green for America Recycles Day. Republic Services joined other local organizations in a recycling event at the Thomas and Mack on Wednesday.  NV Energy was on site to accept incandescent light bulb donations in exchange for LED bulb replacements.

Republic Services offers Thanksgiving recycling tips

Now that Thanksgiving is over, City of Las Vegas officials and Republic Services are ensuring the community is helping sustainability efforts to eliminate waste.  According to the county, household waste increases by 25 percent during the holiday season, which adds one million tons of trash into landfills.  The Republic Service recommends throwing away things like soiled paper plates and pizza boxes while recycling plastic bottles, soda cans, and cups.
