Our team joined Haywood Habitat for Humanity for a National Neighborhood Promise® Day of Service in Waynesville, North Carolina. We helped improve the Chestnut Park green space.
Thanks to a $250,000 grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation, this work will go further than one day. The funding supports creek repair, a natural play area made from reused logs, native plants, seats for all and a community garden.
This investment will transform an underused space into a welcoming community hub that brings people together and gives the community a place to grow. Kids can play, families can gather and neighbors can connect.
Why it matters
Safe green spaces support health, learning and connection. Through creek restoration, native landscaping and new gathering spaces, the Chestnut Park project will create more opportunities for recreation, environmental education and community engagement. These improvements will help the park thrive for years to come.
Making an Impact
This effort goes beyond a single day. It builds a stronger, safer community where people feel proud to live, play and come together. There are many more NNP Days planned this year. Find out how you can get involved here.
