New Orleans Team Helps Revitalize Local Women and Children’s Shelter

As part of the National Neighborhood Promise® (NNP) program, Republic Services teams in New Orleans partnered with Rebuilding Together New Orleans to help renovate the New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter. Through a $250,000 grant, the Republic Services Charitable Foundation provided facility improvements, including converting a portion of the parking lot into a playground for kids and adding finishing touches on a storage building to turn it into a community room. Local republic volunteers joined forces on Rebuilding Together New Orleans’ She Builds Day to help with painting, landscaping and a neighborhood cleanup.

“She Builds is designed to help women break down some of the barriers and challenges they face every day. Republic Services was one of our very first She Builds supporters, and for them to commit to the initiative in its second year with their National Neighborhood Promise grant and service day is both overwhelmingly impactful, and serendipitous as we help even more of our neighbors move towards safe, health and affordable housing.” – Kat Schweitzer, Director of Development for Rebuilding Together New Orleans.

“New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter is grateful for the support from Republic Services and the partnership of RTNO, which will enhance the use of our space for the benefit of our residents and Transition Assistance Program participants, both adults and children.” – Dawn Bradley-Fletcher, CEO of New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter.
