On June 13, the Republic Services National Neighborhood Promise team volunteered in Moore, Oklahoma. They joined Moore Public Schools and Bridges of Moore Village for an important day of service, helping get homes ready for students facing homelessness. Volunteers assembled furniture, landscaped outdoor spaces, stocked essentials and helped transform newly built apartments into welcoming homes
The Impact
The $250,000 grant is helping build two duplex homes to bring safety and stability to unaccompanied high school students experiencing homelessness in the Moore, Oklahoma area.
The need is significant. Moore Public Schools has identified 307 students experiencing homelessness, a number that has increased by nearly 400% since 2020
This work is about more than housing. It gives students a real opportunity to stay in school, graduate and plan for their future. Over the next 20 years, the homes funded by Republic Services could help provide stable housing for 160 to 320 students.
Why it Matters
Bridges of Moore Village is a new neighborhood for students experiencing homelessness. Today, many must leave school or live in unsafe places. These homes will give students a safe place to stay and a stronger path toward graduation.
The Bridges model helps each student finish school with a plan, whether that path includes college, workforce training, military service or a career. In Norman, where the program has operated for 30 years, 100% of students leave with a post-graduation plan.
