Muni Manager Julie J. Honored with Distinguished Service Award Nomination

Congratulations to Muni Manager Julie J. for her recent Distinguished Service Award Nomination in Albany, OR. Julie was a guest of honor at the 2023 Distinguished Service Awards Banquet, held Saturday, March 4, with the theme, “Albany’s Hall of Fame.” Attendees were encouraged to wear gear of their favorite sports team. The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event to celebrate and honor local businesses and individuals that have shown dedication to the community.

Julie has served as the Executive Director of the Albany Downtown Association and is recognized for always having Albany’s best interest in mind. She has also served as a community partner to the Boys & Girls Club of Albany for the past 8 years and is also involved with the ABC House, a children’s advocacy center.

Here’s an excerpt from a letter of recommendation from the CEO of the Mid-Williamette Family YMCA that summarizes Julie’s exemplary service in her community.

“Julie is one of the most dynamic leaders in our community.  She has a passion for serving others, like no other.  She represents Republic Services with dignity and respect and always has her ‘community first’ hat on, 24 hours a day.  Julie seeks to improve each community she is involved with and has a passion for serving in areas where many organizations avoid due to lack of marketing opportunities.  I truly believe Julie cares more about positive results and selfless service than advertising for her company.  This is a rare quality today. … Julie is an impactful leader whose work will live well beyond her years.”

Julie was instrumental in helping the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA receive a $250,000 grant from Republic Services. This grant enabled the YMCA to build the region’s first and only all-inclusive and all-adaptive playground.  Children will enjoy a massive play space where even the turf is static free (important for those with cochlear implants because static electricity can damage implants).  Without Julie’s help, the Willamette Valley would never realize such a wonderful playground centerpiece for thousands of children to enjoy.  She and 35 other Republic Service employees also facilitated the move of the old YMCA playground, in order to create additional play space during peak hours.

Congratulations, Julie, on this well-deserved nomination! You exemplify Republic Services values of Human-Centered and Committed to Serve, and play a vital role in promoting Customer Zeal by taking ownership to create a great customer experience. Thank you for all you do!
