Republic Services volunteers gathered on April 13 for a special neighborhood revitalization project in Memphis’ Binghampton neighborhood. Working in partnership with Binghampton Development Corporation (BDC) and Clean Memphis, volunteers constructed two outdoor classrooms at the Carpenter Art Garden for hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education in Binghampton schools.
The project was funded by a $180,000 National Neighborhood Promise® grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. The classrooms will help complement Clean Memphis’ effort to promote environmental education in Binghampton schools. The group also completed a community cleanup.
“At Republic Services, we are focused on improving the communities in which we live and work. We believe it is essential to be active in the communities we serve. We are excited to partner with BDC and Clean Memphis to help bring jobs and education to Memphis that help all of us make our city more beautiful and sustainable.” – Jason W., General Manager, Republic Services of Memphis
