Memorial Day: A Day of Gratitude and Reflection

With pool parties, family cookouts, and the unofficial start of summer, it’s easy to lose sight of the meaning behind Memorial Day. On this day, lets honor the more than 660,000 brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Since the Civil War, Americans have observed a day of remembrance of those who died in service. Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in 1971 and has been observed on the last Monday in May ever since.

To learn more about Memorial Day and how you can support current service members, visit the U.S.O.’s official website, where you can share a message of support and encouragement to those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

On behalf of Republic Services and the V.A.L.O.R. Business Resource Group, have a safe Memorial Day weekend!
