Making a Difference: Phoenix NNP Volunteers Support Families at UMOM

On Tuesday, April 22, a group of over 75 team members from Phoenix HQ, our local Business Units and members of each of our Business Resource Groups came together for a special Earth Day volunteer event at UMOM New Day Centers. UMOM is an innovative provider of shelter, housing and services for people experiencing homelessness in the Phoenix area.

UMOM New Day Center was a proud recipient of a $200,000 National Neighborhood Promise Grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. For the event, volunteers jumped into action, organizing spaces, helping with dining services, beautifying the campus and engaging with families at our Touch-a-Truck station. Some volunteers even spent time conducting mock interviews to support women in securing jobs. All these activities support UMOM’s mission to help individuals and families experiencing homelessness restore hope and rebuild their lives.

MAKING AN IMPACT

UMOM’s National Neighborhood Promise (NNP) grant will help establish three new computer labs at the Family Emergency Shelter, the Halle Women’s Center and the Boys & Girls Clubs. These labs will support many individuals on their path to stability and self-sufficiency.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered! Your dedication to our community and sustainability truly made a difference, and we’re glad to have celebrated National Volunteer Month in such a meaningful way.

Stay tuned for more NNP Day recaps and find out how you can get involved here.
