Leading the Way in Organics Recycling

Last week, Republic Services’ Otay Compost Facility received its first loads of mixed food and yard waste from the cities of Chula Vista and Carlsbad. The Otay Compost Facility is California’s first fully solar powered compost facility and processes about 200 tons of food and yard waste per day. It is anticipated to offset the equivalent emissions of 2,500 gasoline powered cars per year!

Recycling organic waste into compost creates a nutrient-rich soil amendment, which helps preserve natural resources and reduces water consumption. The compost produced at our facilities is used by the agriculture and landscaping industries as well as by the cities from which the organic waste is generated.
