Kicking Off Maintenance Awareness Month: Honoring Company Top Shops

Every engine that turns, every truck on route, every piece of heavy equipment at work, none of it would be possible without our skilled maintenance teams. As we kick off Maintenance Awareness Month at Republic Services, we celebrate our maintenance teams that operate behind the scenes yet form the backbone of our entire fleet.

Leading these teams are maintenance managers who develop maintenance schedules, manage budgets and vendor contracts, and ensure strict compliance with workplace safety and environmental regulations. Their leadership not only supports operational efficiency but also contributes to the safety of our people and fleet of trucks and heavy equipment.

During Maintenance Awareness Month, we proudly recognize our 2024 Company Top Shops and applaud the exceptional maintenance managers whose leadership drives the success of their high-performing technician teams. Congratulations 2024 Company Top Shops:

Fleet – BU240-Central Alabama

Maintenance Manager: Jeff C.

The Central Alabama Business Unit combines three hauling divisions, all maintaining 100% PM compliance. The BU achieved CPEH goals, beating budget by 4%, and exceeding company warranty recovery goals at all three locations totaling 294K and a BU average of 159%. Their success is built on safety and employee engagement, which enables them to maintain a safe, durable fleet to service the 150+ daily routes in the Birmingham metropolitan area.

Heavy Equipment – BU433 San Diego Post Collection

San Diego Post Collection uses PM compliance and warranty recovery metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of our maintenance programs, including a review of 41 inspection items. We are happy to report we scored 100% on maintenance metrics and 95% on an onsite review of the maintenance program. San Deigo Post Collection has an excellent reputation for meeting Republic’ OneFleet standards.

Environmental Solutions – BU604 ES Texas Coast

Our ES Texas Coast BU manages a complex fleet of 197 assets that are a mix of HE and rolling stock. They stand out as a Top Shop due to their ability to execute tasks timely and effectively, proven by consistently maintaining above 99% PM compliance. The maintenance team in this BU strives for excellence in data entry, with 99.9% compliance in complete work order detail. Additionally, they have set the pace for Samsara installations on vehicles and equipment and have never gone below 99% compliance in meter updates.

Recycling – BU326 Eastern Twin Cities

The Eastern Twin Cities maintenance team had a challenging yet very successful 2024. This team, led by John Jorissen (Maintenance Manager) and Matt Straw (Lead Tech,) maintained a PM compliance percentage >98 while being 3 techs short all year. Additionally, the team helped the Recycling Center achieve an uptime of 91% and a BIC score of 97. Most importantly this team had no safety incidents in 2024 – and on top of that, they have been incident free for over 2+ years.

Compactor Solutions Center – BU220 East Houston

Compactor Shop Manager: Charles W.

Houston CSC is a stand-out shop due to its dramatic improvement over the previous year, earning the title of most improved shop. Significant improvements have been made in everything from the quality of their compactor rebuilds, process improvements, quality of leadership and interaction with staff, and overall Customer Zeal through service repairs and response times.
