Keep Your Pets Safe in the Summer Heat; Enter 101 Days of Summer Safety Contest!

Rising temperatures can be tough on our furry friends. Here are a few simple ways to help keep your pets safe and comfortable this summer:

Walk Smart

  • Walk pets early or late in the day when it’s cooler.
  • Test the pavement with your palm—if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws.
  • Bring water and take breaks in the shade.
  • Consider protective booties to prevent burns.

Prevent Heat Stroke

  • Never leave pets in a parked car—even for a minute.
  • Watch for signs of heat stroke: heavy panting, bright red gums, fast heart rate or disorientation.
  • Breeds with short snouts, thick coats or extra weight are at higher risk.
  • If your pet’s temperature hits 105°F, cool them with water and seek immediate vet care.

With a few extra precautions, summer adventures with your pets can stay fun—and safe.
