Important Message from Jon Vander Ark: Coronavirus Update 1

Republic Team,

With safety as our number one priority, we want to provide an update on the coronavirus. During times of crisis or potential threat, our priority is our people. The coronavirus has quickly become a global issue, making your safety and health our top concern.

We have strong business continuity plans in place to help us protect our employees and quickly respond to any situation that may impact our people, assets or operations. The cross-functional Business Continuity team is working closely to monitor the situation across markets and preparing to mobilize any relief efforts should the need arise. Additionally, we are in close contact with health officials, municipalities and state governments to ensure compliance as guidance and mandates are passed down.

At this time, we do not have any known cases of coronavirus across our workforce, but diagnosed cases are increasing in markets where we live and operate. While the risk of contracting the virus in the U.S. is said to be low at this time, it’s critically important that we remain vigilant—doing our part to stay healthy and being mindful of the health and safety of those around us. We encourage you to take the necessary precautions to keep yourself, your families and your colleagues safe.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), person-to-person transmissions are thought to occur when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how the flu and other respiratory viruses spread. For confirmed coronavirus cases, reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death. Symptoms can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. The CDC believes that symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure. This means, you can have and spread the virus before you feel sick.

Again, the immediate risk is believed to be low. Please review the recommendations below on how to stay safe.

  • It’s currently flu season and the CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine. Employees on Republic’s healthcare plan may be eligible for free flu
  • Always take preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs, such as frequently washing hands with soap and water, disinfecting surfaces, coughing into your inner elbow,
  • Stay home from work and public places if you are sick, especially if you have the flu or flu-like
  • Seek medical attention immediately if you believe you’ve been exposed to coronavirus or have the symptoms noted above.
  • If you have had any contact with anyone potentially exposed to coronavirus, you should immediately notify
  • Use your best judgment when traveling for non-essential reasons.
  • Stock up on essential supplies that may be needed during a potential quarantine or
  • Stay informed by watching the news or visiting the CDC website.
