Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day: A Day of Acknowledgement and Reflection

Annually, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we reflect on his impact and honor his legacy on the civil rights movement and our country. Dr. King’s dream of a brighter tomorrow still stands strong today and is shared by all of us at Republic Services. Together, we’re building a better future.

Why MLK Day Matters

Dr. King believed in the power of community and the importance of working together to create a more equitable society. His words, actions, and sacrifices remind us of the ongoing responsibility to uphold the values of fairness, dignity, and respect in our everyday lives. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day of reflection, learning, and service. It’s a time to consider how far we’ve come as a society and how far we still have to go to achieve Dr. King’s dream of a more inclusive world.

Living the Dream: How You Can Make a Difference

Dr. King famously said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” In that spirit, MLK Day has become a National Day of Service, encouraging people to give back to their communities.

Here are some ways to honor the day:

  • Volunteer Locally: Look for opportunities to support local organizations, whether through food banks, shelters, or community clean-up efforts.
  • Educate Yourself and Others: Learn about Dr. King’s life and work or share his message with friends and family.
  • Commit: Reflect on how you can promote inclusion and diversity in your personal and professional life.

Did you or your Business Unit volunteer this MLK Day? If so, we’d love to see your photos. Please send all photos to bluenation@republicservices.com.
