HazMat Field Driver Keith S. Shares Safety Tips with Students

We are so proud of our frontline employees who make a big impact in their communities. HazMat Field Driver Keith S. in Atlanta, GA, recently connected with local students as part of Career Day at Fairview Elementary School.

“I shared with the students who Republic Services is and what we do, including the role we play in safely disposing of chemicals and protecting the environment. I also talked about my day-to-day work and the importance of safety when handling chemicals—many of which are common household products found right in their cabinets at home.

The students really enjoyed learning about the 18-wheeler, including how large the truck is, how much power it has, and what is carried in the back. They especially loved getting the chance to hear the horn and see the truck up close.

Republic Services also provided some fun items for the students. I let the kindergarteners pick an item blindly from four buckets, which included bracelets, sunglasses, sidewalk chalk, and coloring books. With the older students, I asked a few questions at the end of my session, and those who answered correctly were able to choose an item to take with them.”

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The students were very engaged and seemed to enjoy learning about chemicals, trucks, and how we help keep the environment safe.” – Keith said.

A big thank you to Keith for representing Republic Services and shaping the next generation of sustainability stewards.
