Getting to Know our MOSAIC Council Members

[/av_textblock] [av_textblock size='16' font_color='' color='' av-medium-font-size='' av-small-font-size='' av-mini-font-size='' admin_preview_bg=''] A mosaic is a piece of art made by putting together colorful tiles of different shapes, sizes and materials to create something special. At Republic, our MOSAIC (Mission Of Supporting An Inclusive Culture) is very similar. It represents our deliberate efforts to bring together people from different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives to make us a stronger, better company. Our MOSAIC Council was formed to lead the way in creating an inclusive and diverse culture where everyone feels welcomed and valued.

Currently, the MOSAIC Council consists of 10 members – each bringing a wealth of experience, leadership and support for growing inclusion and diversity within the Company. Meet Pedro G. and Molly M. – two dynamic leaders and Council members.

Pedro G.

[/av_textblock] [av_textblock size='14' font_color='' color='' av-medium-font-size='' av-small-font-size='' av-mini-font-size='' admin_preview_bg=''] In 2013, Pedro transitioned from the United States Marine Corps after 14 years of service, into Republic Services as a Hauling Operations Supervisor in Itasca, TX. Since then, he’s been a leader in various capacities, now serving as General Manager, Dallas-Fort Worth Post Collection. Pedro is one of the newest members of the MOSAIC Council.

“Becoming a Council member is important to me because I am able to influence how we put into practice inclusion and diversity for 36,000 employees. I provide the Council with a unique field-level perspective of our business, coupled with an understanding of our Veteran community and a minority outlook,” said Pedro.

“I am extremely grateful someone was willing to hire a Hispanic combat Veteran and Marine Drill Instructor onto this team. I am a product of diversity and inclusion. The work of the MOSAIC Council is to ensure that we are a better company tomorrow than we were yesterday. The way to accomplish our mission is to hire the best people from all walks of life.”

When looking to the future, Pedro reflects on his family. “I was raised in a large family with five sisters and all my cousins were girls. Nowadays, my son and I are outnumbered by my wife and two daughters. Naturally, being named on Forbes’ 2019 Best Employers for Women holds a special place in my heart. It’s great to see women achieve amazing results at Republic Services. I hope my daughters are afforded those same opportunities one day.”

Molly M.

[/av_textblock] [av_textblock size='14' font_color='' color='' av-medium-font-size='' av-small-font-size='' av-mini-font-size='' admin_preview_bg=''] Molly has been with the Company for a little over 10 years. She started as a division accountant, worked her way up to become General Manager of Fairmont/Wheeling, West Virginia, and most recently was promoted to Director, Operations Support for the Mid-Atlantic Area. Molly was one of only a few women in a General Manager role when she was hired, but that number keeps growing.

Molly is starting her new position this week in Charlotte, North Carolina. In her new role, she will be providing expertise in all functional areas, such as fleet maintenance, environmental compliance and safety. “When this opportunity was brought to me, I looked at it as a new challenge and a new direction for my leadership. It’s a chance to champion the matrix we’ve developed as a Company and continue to support field employees.”

Molly has served on the MOSAIC Council since March 2018. For her, serving on the Council is an opportunity to be a part of creating a workplace that embraces different people, needs and backgrounds. “I&D isn’t just about race or gender – it also means experiences, tenure, where you grew up, if you have a military background and what your different skill sets are. I always tell my people, ‘you don’t want 50 Mollys!’ Everyone has different skill sets and we have to learn to use our differences to move us forward.”

Molly is invested in growing inclusion and diversity within the organization. “I’m excited about the awareness that the Council has brought to I&D this year and sharing with our front-line employees what inclusion and diversity mean. It’s not just about hiring certain groups of people – it’s about creating the best teams. Teams made up of all different viewpoints will go further.”
