The Republic Services Political Action Committee (PAC) doubled in size last year. With every new member and every new contribution, the PAC accomplishes even more for our business. From building important relationships that facilitate municipal opportunities to protecting critical assets, the PAC has your back.

So, what is a PAC?
A PAC refers to a distinct type of political committee registered with the Federal Election Commission. Today, there are more than 4,600 PACs involving businesses, trade organizations and labor unions across the country. Contributions may be made from PACs to campaigns or to support or defeat ballot initiatives and legislation.

Why do we have a PAC?
Local and state elected officials can affect our business through policies, legislation or public and political influence. We use the PAC to educate these officials, so they understand our Company and recognize our differentiation.

Is our PAC working?
Absolutely. This year alone, the PAC has been a critical tool for several Business Units. In West Virginia, for example, the PAC helped us secure a five-year contract renewal. In Indiana, the PAC was a factor in earning a price increase and improved margins on an important municipal contract. And, in Arkansas, the PAC supported our local team’s efforts to educate municipal leaders and win business away from a competitor.

How can you get involved?
Participation is completely voluntary. But PAC eligible employees can get involved by helping us Fuel the PAC! In the month of July, the Republic Services PAC is holding a campaign drive to Fuel the PAC. It involves a friendly competition among Area and HQ teams with employee engagement prizes and of course, bragging rights. Look for Fuel the PAC campaign news and ways to participate throughout July!
