ES Atlantic Area Completes High-Risk Shutdown with Perfect Safety Record

Our Altamont, New York Team led by Ops Manager Shawn S. successfully completed an annual Aluminum Anodizing shutdown with more than 50 employees from seven divisions and multiple BUs working around the clock to safely execute a very complex project. The scope of the project included multiple simultaneous confined space entries, water blasting along with roll-off and vacuum truck operations.

These confined spaces present some of the highest potential hazards the team faces in the field. Temperatures can reach 130°F, atmospheres can be hazardous, and the presence of sodium hydroxide, a highly corrosive chemical capable of causing rapid chemical burns and respiratory damage, combined with challenging egress makes safety planning critical. To manage these risks, Republic deployed multiple certified confined space rescue teams on site, capable of self-performing both entry and non-entry rescue if needed.

The project was completed ahead of schedule and with more than 1,000 safe hours of work performed. The shutdown concluded with zero recordable injuries, zero safety frequency incidents, and zero first aid cases.

“An outstanding team effort across the organization. We are very proud of everyone involved and already looking forward to supporting our client again this fall,” said Kirk B., Area Safety Manager.
