Republic Services’ Environmental Solutions Emergency Response team has been working hard following the Reed Point, Montana Bridge Derailment in June. A total of 158 responders are on site focused on protecting the Yellowstone River habitat and removing thousands of pounds of asphalt from the area where the train derailed. As of August 7, cleanup crews have gathered approximately 231,545 pounds of asphalt by hand covering 121 miles of the Yellowstone River.
To accomplish this massive project, the team has traveled over 30,000 miles of the Yellowstone River during recovery operations using 29 jet boats daily. They are managing a three-acre staging area for Republic Services responders, all while also watching out for impacted wildlife.
The project is expected to continue through mid-August.
Thank you to the hardworking Emergency Response team restoring the Yellowstone River. You are truly living our values of being Safe, Committed to Serve, Environmentally Responsible and Driven.
