Employee Relief Fund: Human-Centered Support in Times of Need

As hurricane season makes its way through the U.S., some employees and their families have been affected by hailstorms, tornadoes and severe weather events like Hurricane Beryl, which made landfall in the Houston, TX area. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting an above-normal 2024 hurricane season. Thankfully, the Republic Services Employee Relief Fund (ERF) is here to help.

In the past five years, the ERF has helped over 600 employees, 90 percent of whom are frontline employees, in 40 states during their time of need. The ERF is available to all active full-time and part-time employees in the U.S. and Canada.

How We Help

  • The Republic Services Employee Relief Fund is an employee-funded program that provides financial assistance to employees and their families in times of need due to severe weather events, fires, or employee deaths. The program offers monetary support for expenses such as temporary housing, clothing, food, and other needs that may arise when disaster strikes.
  • If you’re facing financial hardships due to a severe weather event or fire, you can apply to receive financial assistance by filling out the Employee Relief Fund application. The application is available in English and Spanish. Click here to get started.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This has been a hard, stressful and humbling time. It took a lot for me to reach out because I am always the problem-solver for anyone in need but it’s opened my eyes to see we may be a huge company but in tough times we are one big family helping each other. Thank you so much to all who make the Employee Relief Fund possible! Even if it is $5 a week, our donations take a huge weight off a person’s shoulders in their time of need. It’s a humbling experience to go through and I urge everyone to consider donating so others can get support when they need it.” – Frontline employee and Employee Relief Fund recipient, impacted by two storms within weeks of each other.

How You Can Support the ERF

Through our Employee Giving Program, you can help make a difference at a critical time in someone’s life. Contributing to the ERF through payroll deduction is quick and simple. Donors can set up recurring payroll deductions, which take the contribution amount from every paycheck, or they may set up a one-time contribution, taken either from their paycheck or a credit card.

Natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, and wildfires can happen at any time. Please consider donating to the Employee Relief Fund. For more information, visit the Employee Relief Fund SharePoint site here. To start an Employee Relief Fund application, please click here.
