Earth Day Interview with Sustainability Innovation Leader Tim Oudman

Tim Oudman at Las Vegas Polymer Center Grand Opening

With Earth Day coming up on April 22, we had the chance to sit down with Tim Oudman, Senior Vice President of Sustainability Innovation, to discuss how we bring sustainability into various parts of our business at Republic Services.

We’re hearing a lot about “sustainability innovation” as part of our Company’s goals. What exactly is sustainability innovation?

Tim: Here at Republic Services, we are focused on being a leader in sustainability, in our industry and across the country.  The Sustainability Innovation segment creates sustainability solutions for our customers — including Republic’s circularity and decarbonization businesses, plus other emerging businesses.  For example, our Polymer Centers enable bottle-to-bottle plastics circularity, which directly helps our customers create more sustainable packaging solutions for their products.

How does sustainability innovation support our value of Environmentally Responsible?

Tim: The short answer is that we are taking action to improve our environment! Over the next few years, we will be making major investments in various sustainability innovation businesses.  This will include more than 40 Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) plants at our landfills and additional Polymer Centers.

What’s your favorite part of leading Sustainability Innovation?

Tim: We have an amazing, hard-working, collaborative and creative Sustainability Innovation team. At any one time, the team is standing up multiple new businesses and operations from scratch. It’s awesome to see the team bring a vision to life and build another growth platform that Republic can use to expand the way we serve customers.

Thanks so much to Tim for taking the time to sit down with us in honor of Earth Day. Be sure to check out the other Earth Day stories here on Blue Nation Online!
