Congratulations to Driver Brian B., who is celebrating his 35th year at Republic. Ops Supervisor Sean E. sat down with Brian to ask him a few questions about his long-term career in the industry and safety advice for new drivers.
Q You started at Republic in 1985 – did you start out as a Driver?
A No, I started out as a laborer in Medford, MA, and learned how to drive on the job. In my opinion, this is the best way to learn – by having another driver teach you.
Q How did your team celebrate your big anniversary?
A Everybody congratulated me, everybody did. It was nice.
Q What do you enjoy most about being a driver?
A I like being in my own space and having freedom. But you’ve always got to focus.
Q What advice do you have for drivers new to the job?
A Always, always, always pay attention to everything around you. It’s so difficult, between the UBER drivers, bicycles and pedestrians. Your head needs to be on a swivel.
Q Outside of work, what do you like doing in your free time?
A Spending time with my family.
Thank You, Brian, for your 35 years of service!
