Republic Services opens $75 million one-of-a-kind recycling plastics facility in Las Vegas

A first-of-its-kind facility is opening in Las Vegas with the hopes of reducing the amount of plastic in landfills.  Republic Services invested $75 million into its Polymer Center located near Nellis Boulevard and Carey Avenue…Through a concept called circularity, Republic Services’ President and Chief Executive Officer Jon Vander Ark said the goal is to drastically reduce new plastics in the environment.  “Most rigid plastics today get down-cycled into pipes, park benches, carpets, which is good. But at the end of life of the product. it’s going to end up in the landfill,” Vander Ark said.

Republic Services has marked the opening of its Polymer Center in Las Vegas, a first-of-its-kind facility in North America, according to the company. Enabling greater circularity for plastics and helping meet the growing demand for recycled material, the Polymer Center expects to produce more than 100 million pounds of recycled plastics each year for use in sustainable packaging and other applications.

Republic Services acquires west central Indiana trash and recyclables hauler

Phoenix-headquartered Republic Services says it has acquired a trash and recyclables hauler serving areas of west central Indiana.  Brazil, Indiana-based Wallace Bros. Disposal & Recycling began in 1996 as a family-owned and -operated company, its website says. The business served Clay, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Vermillion, Vigo, and northern Sullivan counties.
