Cub Scouts Learn Recycling Basics in Ferndale, WA

A Cub Scout pack of 33 kids from Whatcom County recently took a field trip to our transfer station in Ferndale, WA, on their path to earning a Conservation Adventure Patch. The Conservation Adventure Patch has four requirements:

  1. Discover the difference between renewable natural resources and non-renewable natural resources
  2. Learn about the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
  3. Discover what happens to the recyclables in their community
  4. Participate in a conservation project

The kids participated in a recycling game separating trash and recyclables into designated bins. Additionally, Municipal Relationship Manager Pinky V. gave a presentation with examples of what recycled items can become and even awarded the kids with prizes before they left. Everyone learned something new and had fun!
