Recycling Lessons now featured on Mizzen by Mott App

Do you know an afterschool educator, homeschool educator or parent interested in teaching children how to be great recyclers and the relationship between recycling and the environment? Then, we’ve got the app for you!

Republic Services is excited to announce a new partnership with Mizzen by Mott, a platform that provides high-quality, engaging learning content to afterschool education programs. Created by Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Mizzen by Mott is a free app to help afterschool professionals deliver exciting learning opportunities that will inspire, engage and empower young learners.

Educators can now download four amazing recycling lessons for children of all ages. The lessons are from our award-winning Recycling Simplified website. Here’s a glimpse of the lessons and activities available on Mizzen:

  • Pre-K-Grade 2: Introduction to the topic of recycling, why it is important, where garbage goes when it leaves students’ homes, and a discussion of how recycling changes the world.
  • Grades 3-5: Lesson on how to recycle and the relationship between recycling and the environment, which is supported by a video and an activity to follow that allows students to understand how to recycle correctly.
  • Grade 6-8: Students will increase their understanding of how recycling affects our environment by taking a video tour of a recycling center to see how various types of recyclable materials are handled and will then complete a word puzzle that reinforces their new knowledge.
  • Grades 9-12: Students will strengthen their understanding of the connections among recycling, landfills, and the environment by watching videos, discussing ideas about how to persuade people to recycle effectively, and writing a description of a persuasive recycling campaign.

Afterschool educators, homeschool educators, and other users can access these free lessons on Mizzen’s website or through the Mizzen by Mott App. Interested in accessing more recycling activities for kids of all ages?
