Ethical Decision-Making Wallet Cards

Please watch the video below for an important message from Catharine Ellingsen, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer.

Team:

Here at Republic, we are committed to maintaining a highly ethical culture and we count on every employee to make good decisions and to do what is right when faced with everyday challenges.  Our continued success depends on working together to behave ethically and in compliance with the law and our policies every day and in every aspect of our jobs.  But how do we always know what is appropriate conduct?

Our Code of Business Ethics and Conduct is your go-to guide for doing your job ethically and for examples of the types of responsible decisions we should be making each day.  When we refer to ethical decisions, we mean decisions that are guided by Republic’s core values, also known as the 5Rs – to be Respectful, Responsible, Reliable, Resourceful and Relentless.  Our Code helps explain how we can put those values into practice as we carry out our job responsibilities.

Every employee has a personal responsibility to understand and comply with our values, our Code and our policies.  It is important to note that our Code does not cover every ethical question or dilemma you might face while on the job, and when the right decision is unclear, think through the issue before you act.

As a tool to help you make good ethical decisions, the Company is providing all employees with a wallet card that includes the following questions to consider when you are uncertain of the right thing to do:

If your answer to any of these questions is “no” then stop – it’s not the right thing to do.  If you don’t know the answers to these questions, you should ask for help in making the right decision.  You can always ask your local management team, and you can also reach out to Human Resources, Legal, and Ethics & Compliance.  Do not take any chances or make assumptions that could lead to serious consequences for you and the Company.

The wallet card has been mailed to your home. Please keep it handy as a reminder of the importance of ethics and doing the right thing when making your decisions.  If you need a wallet card in Spanish, please see your supervisor.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our values and doing the right thing – including Speaking Up if you have a question, concern or believe that something is unethical or illegal.  Always feel free to reach out to me for any ethics-related issue at AskEthicalEthel@RepublicServices.com.

Thank you for doing your part!
