What better way to learn about recycling than experiencing it in person? Our new Seattle Recycling Learning Center tours are free and open to the public! Municipal Manager Wendy W. and Contract Administrator Carla J. recently welcomed the following groups to the Learning Center:
Learning About Recycling!
The Seattle Recycling Learning Center is a great way to learn about the recycling and get a behind-the-scenes look into recycling technology and the process for recycling different materials. Did you know?
- The Seattle recycling facility processes the equivalent of two Boeing 747s every day.
- We keep it local! All recyclable materials are sold in North America. Soon we will be able to send our plastic water bottles and milk jugs to our Las Vegas Polymer Center to become post-consumer content in packaging.
- When plastic bags and film wrap around the disk rollers it closes the spaces and interrupts the flow of materials. The facility has to shut down to cut the plastic film off.
- Batteries should never go in the cart. They can cause fires at the facility.
A big thank you to Carla for providing these fun facts!
