The Lunar New Year begins on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and marks the start of the Year of the Horse. People all over the world celebrate this special holiday with their families. It’s a time for new beginnings, good luck and happiness.

The Year of the Horse
In the Chinese zodiac, each year is named after an animal. The horse represents strength, energy and freedom. People born in the Year of the Horse are thought to be active, smart and adventurous. 2026 is a Fire Horse year, which adds extra excitement and boldness.

Fun Traditions

  • Clean and decorate: Families clean their homes to welcome good luck. Red decorations and lanterns are hung everywhere.
  • Red envelopes: Older family members give money in red envelopes for luck.
  • Lion and dragon dances: Colorful dances bring happiness and good fortune to the community.
